Early Years Foundation Stage

 

The Department for Education (DfE) has a 'Good Level of Development' (GLD) performance measure for pupils in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS). Pupils will be defined as having achieved a GLD if they achieve at least the expected level in:

  • The early learning goals (ELGs) in the 3 prime areas of learning (communication and language; physical development; and personal, social and emotional development); and
  • The ELGs in the specific areas of mathematics and literacy

 

In the Early Years Foundation Stage 81% of pupils in Reception attained a Good Level of Development against the Early Years Framework. This is above the LA average of 72%. The National data is not available until the October 2019 Half-Term.

 

Year One Phonic Screening

 

The Phonics Screening Test is a short assessment all year 1 pupil must undertake to ensure all pupils have learned phonic decoding to an appropriate standard. The test contains:

  • 40 words divided into 2 sections of 20 words
  • A mixture of real words and pseudo-words (nonsense or fake words). Pseudo-words are accompanied by a picture of an imaginary creature

This is explained in guidance on the structure of the check from the Standards and Testing Agency (STA).

At the end of year one 82% of pupils attained the expected standard in the Phonic Screening test. This is in line with the LA (83%) and the National average (82%).


Key Stage One

 

The information below compares the attainment of our pupils with Local Authority (LA) and National averages.  We are delighted with the excellent results across the school.  They are a tribute to the very hard work and dedication of the pupils and the staff. 

 

At the end of KS1 (Y2), teachers are required to assess each child in the areas of reading, writing, maths and science. National Curriculum assessment tests are used to support teachers’ judgements. For more information please see the leaflet from the Standards and Testing Agency.

 

Judgements are made as follows:

 

Expected Standard – Working at the expected standard or Age Related Expectation for a child at the end of Year 2

Greater Depth – Working at greater depth within the expected standard, with a strong and in depth understanding of the curriculum.

 

At the end of the academic year 2018-2019 attainment at the expected standard for Year 2 in Reading was (81%), above the LA (74%) and above National (75%). Attainment in Reading at Greater Depth was (37%), above the LA (23%) and above National (25%).

 

Attainment at the expected standard for Year 2 in Writing was (71%), in line with the LA (68%) and in line with National (69%). Attainment in Writing at Greater Depth was (17%), in line with the LA (14%) and in line with National (15%).

 

Attainment at the expected standard for Year 2 in Maths was (78.2%), in line with the LA (76%) and in line with National (76%). Attainment in Maths at Greater Depth was (30%), above the LA (22%) and above National (22%).
