OUR VALUES

At the Convent of Jesus and Mary Catholic Infant School & Nursery we are a Catholic school community who seeks to live out the teachings of Jesus Christ and is permeated by the Gospel values of Love, Faith, Community, Justice, Service and Reconciliation. The staff and pupils uphold these values in partnership with parents, carers, governors, and the parish as we all endeavour to be the people God wants us to be.

At our school we encourage everyone to share, grow and flourish in faith and love. Our strong pastoral care, the continuous support of Monsignor Reader alongside the neighbouring Parishes of Sacred Heart Church, Kilburn, Our lady of Mercy Chapel, Willesden, Our Lady of Willesden, Harlesden, and the Church of the Transfiguration, Kensal Rise, our dedicated Governing Body, and the hardworking, and enthusiastic Staff and Parent Association are all committed to ensuring our pupils develop spiritually, morally, socially and culturally, so they are fully prepared for life in British society and for their role as responsible citizens.

As we prepare our pupils for life in the wider world we endeavour to instil in them the Gospel Values of:

LOVE

And now I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. If you have love for one another, then everyone will know that you are my disciples.

John 13:34-35

By the love we show one another, we will be known as Christ’s disciples. Each day we are invited and sometimes challenged, to put these words into actions in our encounters with others.

FAITH

For God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not die but have eternal life.

John 3:16

Through our lives we seek to deepen our faith in God, to become more trusting of his love for us. We are comforted by the example of Peter, understanding that God is always there to help us grow in fidelity.

COMMUNITY

Because there is the one loaf of bread, all of us, though many, are one body, for we all share the same loaf.

1 Corinthians 10:17

We are called to respect all God’s gifts of creation, to be good stewards of each other, the earth and all that it holds. With others we build a community of faith with Christ as our inspiration.

JUSTICE

The King will reply, ‘I tell you, whenever you did this for one of the least important of these followers of mine, you did it for me!’

We must be socially responsible, aware of the needs of others, treating all with fairness, respect and dignity. We are asked to reach out especially to the poor, the powerless and those who are marginalised.

SERVICE

I have set an example for you, so that you will do just what I have done for you.

Jesus asks us to grow in our awareness of the calling to serve, encouraging us to be dedicated to God’s service. We use our gifts and talents in the service of others. We have the opportunity to serve the community beyond our school and grow in our understanding of the global responsibilities we have as Christians.

PEACE

May the Lord enable all of us to experience that ‘a harvest of righteousness is sown in peace by those who make peace.’

RECONCILIATION

Forgive us our sins, for we forgive everyone who does us wrong. And do not bring us to hard testing.

Luke 11:4

We learn about God’s great capacity to forgive us throughout our lives in many ways, but perhaps most importantly through the Sacrament of Reconciliation. We are forgiven and, in turn, are asked to forgive others.

We do this by celebrating and supporting:

• New life e.g. chicks, ducks, Love in a box, Caritas week, Harvest festival, Grandparents Day, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, New Babies Day, Christmas Fair, Catholic children’s Society, Winston’s Wish, Mary’s Meals
• Wednesday Word leaflet, Wednesday Worship, Monsignor Reader Visits, Masses, Daily worship, Worship and sharing newsletter, Visits to the church, welcoming different speakers (CAFOD), Carol concerts and Advent events
• Closely linking our St Francis garden to the curriculum with weekly gardening lessons and different sustainability projects, as well as, planting and growing fruit, vegetables and flowers, which are sold to the school community.
• Supporting different charities including the Cricklewood Homeless and Lenten Boxes.
• Ensuring that Religious literacy is the ‘core of the core curriculum’ enabling our school community to attain a vital harmony between faith and culture.
